AIR TRANSPORT
Albania's air transport is centered around the Mother Teresa International Airport in Rinas, 25 km northwest of Tirana. Managed by a Public-Private Partnership, Tirana International Airport offers daily flight information available on its official website in both Albanian and English. Visit TIA for more details.
Additionally, the Kukës International Airport, located 5 km from the northern city of Kukës and 48 km from Prizren in Kosovo, serves as another gateway for air travel. For more information, visit Kukës International Airport.
Future air transport priorities include investments for domestic and tourism purposes, with plans for a new airport in the south to enhance both domestic and international services.
SEA TRANSPORT
With 440 km of coastline, Albania is ideally positioned for maritime activities, including transport, tourism, and fishing, connecting with the Adriatic and beyond. Key ports include the Durrës Port Authority, Vlorë Sea Port, Shengjin Sea Port, and Sarandë Sea Port, along with the Romano-Port and Petrolifera fuel ports. Maritime transport is crucial for the country's transport system and economic development, particularly in tourism.
RAIL TRANSPORT
Albania's railway network comprises 416 km of single main railway line, with 343.35 km operational and a standard gauge of 1435 mm. The network includes 92 km of secondary lines and 45 railway stations, facilitating train exchanges and processing. Key areas of the network feature plains, hills, and mountainous regions. Modernizing the national railway network to enhance quality and intermodality is a priority, with projects aiming to integrate with European railway corridors.
TAXI SERVICE
Taxis are widely available in most Albanian cities, easily recognizable by their yellow color. Most taxis are metered, but fares can sometimes be negotiated in advance. In Tirana, taxis can be hailed on the street or found at numerous taxi stands.
INTERURBAN TRANSPORT
Interurban buses provide economical travel options across major Albanian cities, offering a unique view of the countryside. While buses primarily operate during the day, schedules can be irregular. Fares for long distances, such as Tirana to Saranda, typically range from 1000 to 1200 ALL. Alternatively, privately owned vans offer flexible routes without fixed schedules or fares, but travelers should consider the condition of these vehicles before choosing to travel by van.
